Kare Kare (Piano Beach)

Only a short drive away is Kare Kare beach, a west coast sand beach with surf. This has much to offer; walks along the beach or through the nearby Pohutakawa glade, through the sand dunes or up into the hills for some great views.

The beach has a surf life saving club and patrols are active on a regular basis. The beach is as unspoilt as it can get, with the car park being a short distance away from the beach and very little in the way of development around the beach. No commercialism - so you need to bring in your food and drink.

The beach itself is backed by black sand dunes which run up to the volcanic cliffs and hills which are covered in native bush.
