Kare Kare (Piano Beach)
Only a short drive away is Kare Kare beach, a west coast sand beach with surf. This has much to offer; walks along the beach or through the nearby Pohutakawa glade, through the sand dunes or up into the hills for some great views.
The beach has a surf life saving club and patrols are active on a regular basis. The beach is as unspoilt as it can get, with the car park being a short distance away from the beach and very little in the way of development around the beach. No commercialism - so you need to bring in your food and drink.
The beach itself is backed by black sand dunes which run up to the volcanic cliffs and hills which are covered in native bush.

Kare Kare falls
A short easy walk from Kare Kare beach car park takes you to the Kare Kare falls, with it's pool at the base surrounded by native bush.

Piha beach
Another short drive will bring you to Piha beach well known for its surf. Although slightly more developed than Kare Kare, beach it too is a jewel surrounded by native bush covered hills. A couple of small shops offer refreshment, but that is the extent of commercialism in this unspoilt location. A local art gallery provides access to local artists works.

Local Vineyards
A short drive to Henderson brings you to a number of vineyards where you can sample or buy quality wines from around 20 winemakers read more.
